Die, DEI, die

By George Corrales, Carlsbad, California

When will politicians and school boards realize that DEI is DEAD?

In Carlsbad, California, CUSD board member Gretchen Verbuff once had it right. There’s no proof DEI does anything to unify people or improve test scores. A recent trip to Poway by Trustee Ray Pearson was revealing, she said. The Poway school district’s three-year-old DEI program bore no fruit.

So why pursue this misguided philosophy? Easy. For power and money.

Students “love” DEI because it gives them an excuse to self-marginalize and self-limit, blame others, and seek retribution if not reparations.

Bureaucrats “love” DEI because it comes with money. Money helps expand empires and pad salaries. None of it is going towards hiring more teachers.

When you ask what metrics will be applied to measure success, all you get is gibberish and jargon.

Who’s in charge? Who is accountable if this doesn’t work? How and when do we know if we see or don’t see improvements? We don’t have any answers, and we don’t get any.

Leadership and common sense are lacking in Carlsbad at city hall and school boards. On the other hand, there is no lack of hate, especially among those who hate hate.

When congregants of Carlsbad’s Mission Church attended a recent school board meeting to express their Christian values on DEI and other matters, they were greeted with jeers and words of derision by folks who were there to support diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging. How ironic. “Pray for yourselves!” they mocked.

Similarly, when Carlsbad residents asked Councilwoman Priya Bhat-Patel if she would apologize for implying that Carlsbad residents are “white supremacists” and “ignorant,” Bhat-Patel said no.

While people live in squalor and filth along Carlsbad’s beaches and downtown streets, the same Bhat-Patel touts her doctorate in healthcare and never fails to remind us that she is a person of color. From her corner, expect no help.

Strangely, Bhat-Patel recently said that she hopes someday her son will be treated fairly in the future because he will look different. Different from damn what?

Folks, look. You can’t hide anymore and hope all this will go away. We are no longer living in your father’s (or John Kennedy’s) America. There’s only one way out. #VoteDifferent
