TAX AND SPEND DEMS IN STATE LEGISLATURE CLEARING PATH TO ELIMINATE PROP 13
On September 6, the State Senate’s Elections Committee approved ACA-13, a bill that may lead to the repeal of Prop 13 and, thereby, far higher property taxes for all Californians. The bill will now be put to a full vote on the Senate floor.
According to the Orange County Register, “Assembly Constitutional Amendment 1 (ACA-13) is a direct attack on Proposition 13 that would remove the taxpayer protection of the two-thirds vote of the electorate required to pass local special taxes.
If this measure is enacted, local taxes and bonds for “infrastructure” (nearly everything) and public housing projects would pass with just 55% of the vote instead of 66.67%. This makes it easier to raise taxes, and your taxes could go up after every election.”
In Carlsbad, home ownership on average is vastly higher than in the rest of the state and the rest of the nation in general. In addition, most homeowners in Carlsbad are well into their 40s and older. For seniors who rely on Social Security, pensions, and dividend income, migrating out of California is becoming a realistic go-to alternative.
And because people between 18 and 30 today think less of home ownership than previous generations, Carlsbad in the next one or two generations is likely to become largely a renter-occupied community.
You can thank the usual suspects. #votedifferent
